Mary Ellen (Edwards) Childress

Mary Ellen (Edwards) Childress, 87 of Union City, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, August 11 2026.

Mary Ellen was born on April 29, 1939, to Homer and Mabel(Vorce) Edwards in Union Township, Michigan. 

She graduated from Union City High School.

After high school she worked as a Nurses Aid in Coldwater, Michigan and she was also a homemaker.

Mary Ellen enjoyed senior bingo days, listening to the radio, and watching baseball(Chicago Cubs). She also enjoyed playing cards, ordering everything off of QVC, watching the Waltons, and baking her famous candy bar cakes and fudge.

Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to visit and spend time with her friends and family.

Mary Ellen is survived by her son Andrew M. Gregory (Evie) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; her grandchildren Roseanne Moon (Troy Richardson), Roger Moon, Alicia Gregory Tipton (Joshua), Ashley Gregory Guess (Chad), Adam Gregory (Jill); Fourteen great grandchildren Audree Richardson, Hunter Gregory, Eden Guess Roberts (Dustin), Amber Kidd, Dillon Anderson, Troy Richardson Jr., Allison Gregory, Austin Guess, Taylor Guess, Evelynn Tipton, Jeremiah Tipton, and three additional great granddaughters. Two great great granddaughters Amilia Roberts and Lynlee Roberts; and her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by her second husband Ralph E. Childress of Arkansas, on August 15, 2006 and her first husband Frank Gregory of Michigan on October 6, 1985.

In addition to her husband Ralph, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Mabel(Vorce) Edwards Sr.; her daughter Ada Dorene Gregory, her son-in-law David Moon; her sisters Frances Johnson, Carol Adams, and Charlotte Garnsay and her brothers, George Edwards, Donald Edwards, Richard Edwards, and Homer “Junior” Edwards; several nephews, nieces, and stepchildren.
