John Elgie Horton, 91, of Joiner, passed away May 13, 2025, at NEA Hospital in Jonesboro.  He was born on June 24, 1933, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to the late Thomas Calvin Horton and Ethel Evelyn Stafford.  Mr. Horton was a farm worker and of the Baptist Faith.  He was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife, Betty Horton, two son, John Horton and Pete Horton, seven brothers, Junior, Alton, Harold, Bill, Calvin, Franklin, and Vernon  Horton, four sisters, Ruby Bounds, Eveline Dugard, Bernice Horton, and Mary Horton, two grand children, Kimberly Smith and Wyatt Murphy.  He is survived by five daughters, Carolyn Betterton and Jamie Ferrel both of Osceola, Ethel (Billy Dean) McIlvain of Williford, Shirley (Ron) Hallett of Keiser, and Bettie (Daniel Hamm) Horton of Joiner, one brother, Daniel Horton of Baldwin, Mississippi, one son-in-law, Ricky Kopp of Osceola, one daughter-in law, April Horton, 13 grandchildren, 29 great grand children and seven great great grandchildren.  A visitation will be held Monday, May 19, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola, and the funeral will be Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Osceola followed by the burial at Louise Chapel Cemetery in Joiner with Bro. Jerry Weathers, officiating.  Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola will be in charge of the services.
