Obituary

Jerry Russell was born on May 11, 1951, to the late Richard and Jessie Mae Russell. He received his early education at J.M. Speck School in Frenchman Bayou, Arkansas. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed playing basketball and watching Western movies. Jerry retired from General Motors in Saginaw, Michigan. After retirement, he returned to his hometown of Bassett, Arkansas, where he continued to enjoy life and spend time with family and friends. He also worked as a bus driver for the Rivercrest High School District, where he served his community. Jerry was a faithful member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Evadale, Arkansas. Under the leadership of Pastor Paul Brooks, he served as an usher and remained an active part of his church family. On October 13, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Jerry departed this earthly life in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 75. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he shared and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He Was Preceded in Death by Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jessie Mae Russell; grandson Jerry Russell III, his sisters, Geneva Cole and Jessie Mae Russell; and his four brothers, Henry, Jimmy, Clarence, and Eddie Russell. Those Left to Cherish His Memories Jerry leaves to cherish his precious memories his two sons, Jerry Lee Russell of Saginaw, Michigan, and Tony Williams of Osceola, Arkansas. He also leaves a loving family, including Edna Cooper of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Richard (Geraldine) Russell of Saginaw, Michigan; Bettye (Dewaine) Johnson of Los Angeles, California; Bruce (Connie) Russell of Dyersburg, Tennessee; and Alvin, Juanita, Ruth, and Angelene of Bassett, Arkansas. His legacy also lives on through his beloved aunt, Janet Riley of Bassett, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Jerry will be remembered for the life he lived, the experiences he shared, his love for family, and the lasting memories he leaves behind. Though he will be deeply missed, his life and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
