A Life of Faith and Family

On December 19, 1948, the late Bernice Henton and Robert Harris welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Dorothy Harris, in Blytheville, Arkansas. Dorothy was raised and nurtured in the loving home of the late Elder Frank and Hattie Sims. It was in this home that she was saved and sanctified at an early age, remaining a faithful member of "The Promised Land Church of God in Christ."

Dorothy was educated in the Blytheville school system, attending Robinson Grade School and Harrison High School, where she proudly graduated with the Class of 1966.

A Devoted Mother and Matriarch

Seeking new opportunities, Dorothy moved to Chicago to be with her mother, Bernice. It was during these years that she became the proud mother of her "Princess," Lashona, and her "Three Kings": Terrell, James (Jamie), and Phillip.

Throughout her life, Dorothy resided in several states—California, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee—before eventually returning to her home state of Arkansas. She was united in marriage to Thomas James "TJ" Smith, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy's greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her sons and held a particularly soft spot for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Renewed Spirit

In 2025, Dorothy renewed her commitment to Christ. She spent her final year immersed in the Word, reading her Bible daily and finding strength in a consistent prayer line with her dear cousin and prayer partner, Diane.

On February 28, 2026, following a brief illness, Dorothy peacefully slipped out of time and into eternity at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was surrounded by the love of her sons and grandchildren as she went home to be with the Lord.

Those Who Cherish Her Memory

Dorothy leaves behind a rich legacy of love and faith to be celebrated by:

Her Daughter: Lashona Lowery of Memphis, TN.

Her Sons: Terrell Terry of Covington, GA, and Phillip Cox of Jonesboro, AR.

A Multitude of Blessings: A numerous amount of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Extended Family: A host of cousins, friends, and her "Promised Land" church family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband TJ, and her beloved son, James (Jamie) Harris.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
